Default Ignition Happy Dance

OK, I tried searching first but having trouble even finding the right search terms.

This is the issue.

If I turn the key to Reds/ignition on everything goes haywire.

The dash lights all flash on and off, and the relays in the engine bay are all clicking away.

Turn the key off and then the CD mechanism is clicking like it has just lost all power.

I removed the battery terminals and made sure they were connecting properly. There is 12.2v across the battery. I have put a battery charger on the battery to be sure.

I have checked obvious fuses and all appear ok.

The ignition switch has always been really notchy and difficult to turn on and off.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

UPDATE - Well it appears my batt charger is reporting the battery is defective. Seems to be a common cause of weird behaviour in the WH.

Cheers
Ben

HI Ben

12.2 is low, after a charge it should be up around 12.6 12.7 is fully charged,if you cant get it to those volts the battery is stuffed or close too and the WH's do love a good battery so id suggest changing it.
AS for the ignition, they are like that if it has had the ignition recall done, i have heard of others snapping keys even. this is why i have not had the recall done on mine (i felt is was fairly unlikely to knock the ig9nition to off with my knee as ive had if for two yrs and havent done it yet), i just pulled mine apart an cleaned it up and now its feels alot more positive in its action and feels like new (alot better that what it was, as it would have been easy to knock it off before).
if you do pull it apart and clean be careful as there is a little ball bearing in the switch part that likes it pop out(mine did).
just clean up all the contacts and lube up where it needs, its a pretty easy job to do too.

Thanks for the reply. I have checked now and mine has had the ignition switch recall done.

I have an update now.

I pulled the battery out last night and put it on the shelf ready to be taken to a battery place in the morning.

It dropped to 10v just sitting there. We believe it dropped a cell.

A new battery was acquired and installed.

I am pleased to report all is back to the way it was, with no happy dancing of the electrics occurring anymore.

Cheers
Ben
