Default How I installed my GME TX3400

Hi all

I just installed my TX3400 over the weekend. There are other posts on this forum that picture theirs, so I thought I'd do it differently. Mounted where it is, I can see the head unit through the steering wheel, and have mounted the mike just above the permanent power outlet.

The main radio unit is hidden in between the central console box's inner layer and the outer layer of the console - just on the LHS behind the airbag ECU. Cables are all totally hidden, and I've used a glass-mount aerial with 3db gain - and I've picked up conversations from Mittagong (I'm near Campbelltown) .

Sorry about the fuzziness of the inside aerial transducer - it's mounted in the upper left hand corner of the windscreen.

Cheers
Chris

Hey there Good'ol

Yup - can reach around easily. No obstructions for the left hand as such. Volume is a tiny reach... but the channel knob is ideally placed. It's great to see the front panel in front of you too.

Yes, that's a 3-db gain UHF-version of the RFI glass-mount aerial. It gives very good reception and is supplied pre-SWR'd - which I've proven by having it re-done - to no avail. I had the extra local constabulary's frequencies programmed in too, and now I can listen to the radio for highway problems, bashings, accostments and all the fruit in our local neighbourhood.

Cheers
Chris

thanks Chris - you've probably seen some of the pics on the other thread in here - yours gives our buddies in here another excellent option.

Hi Kel

The aerial is an RFI "On-Glass" AP454-3G UHF antenna with 3db gain. An additional 3db gain whip is also avalable. This one is quite fine though for all convoy work, and still has quite a line-of-sight range to boot. The same mob do CDMA aerials too for your phone (if you run CDMA).

The cost (retail - i.e. to me is $100.00 incl GST. This was through a largish supplier though, and you would probably get it cheaper through that online store in Perth.

There was a second option as well. You can now get UHF "patch" aerials - that are literally a flat stick-on sticky patch around 4" square.

Cheers
Chris
