Default Fitting UHF radio to WJ

Just bought a WJ and am considering installing a UHF radio - type which has a separate display head. Where is the best place to install it and where are people installing their aerials.

1, GME TX3400 or Uniden UH013
2, anywhere under seat, under dash.. where ever you like.
3, aerial on bull bar, or nudge bar or make bracket to anywhere you like.

Default uhf

I installed the GME TX 3400.
I mounted the unit inside the auto console on the right hand side, with the unit on its side (fits snug and no problems with heat as unit does not get hot).
The unit is physical small and light, with such a snug fit valcro or double sided tape is sufficent.

The display l mounted in the front part of the console just under the ashtray useing the existing fixing screws for the bracket.
The WJ l brought had an existing phone pad-bracket-speaker combo (jeep part) l used the existing phone speaker as the external speaker and pad for monting the microphone.
The aerial l mounted on the bullbar (factory)
Hope this helps

We have GME TX 3400 with remote head. We have aerial on gutter mount
r/h side bonnet. Radio face/controls are mounted in behind the gear selector but in front of the cup holders in the centre console. Main part of radio is under drivers seat. Will post some pics if you want them of the head mounted in front of cup holders.

I would love to see the photos if possible. I have an old uhf (abt 10yrs) and can't work out where to put it. The install must look right. I like the sound of you installation so may have to pick up the 3400
ciao

i woudl suggest you to fork out some pennies and get the 3400.... its a good unit especially for the WJ's where these is no intruding place to mount..

TX3400

Uniden has one with the detatchable face like the 3400 as well..
UHO13

the only reason i didnt go for the 3400 is that i didnt have the $$$ back in those days....

Yeah the 3400's the shot.

There's a place in Perth that sells the 3400 for about $100 less than anyone i came across in Sydney. That's comparing prices without an arial. Shipping was overnight for $10.

I don't have the link on me but i'll post it up when i get home for anyone who's interested.
