Default Engine Replacement! 2014 GC Ecodiesel

Hi to all. Well needless to say my JGC is not in a good way and I am really hoping that I won't lose it!
Long story - series of events - but has ended up with my what seems to be a catastrophic failure!

Seems a broken flex plate plus possible timing chain slippage/breakage has damaged main bearings causing deformation of thrust washers and severe oil leaking. Oh, that was immediately after loss of power, oil pressure light coming on and off several times and then significant engine noise eventually stalling!

Jeep dealer has done a good job to this point helping me out but apparently they have been told the engine is no longer available but seem to be unaware of any replacement. I can see they are available from Mopar in the US and certainly is a part number showing as compatible with a 2014 GC but of course says nothing about being suitable for export models.

My question to the group is, anyone know if this has been discontinued (I find that hard to believe) and secondly has anyone had an engine replaced in a 2014/2015 JGC (here in Australia of course) and know that it was ordered directly from the US? Does it need to go through a compliance process when it arrives? I would assume the engine is the same and the emissions differences would be computer controlled with long engine block being the same across the board for a 3.0 ecodiesel.

thanks everyone. Here is to Jeepy surviving the ordeal!

Probably the best way to repair it is to fit a complete second hand engine from a wreckers & use any good parts left of the old engine for spare parts.
These guys will have the parts required to get it running again http://allgrandcherokee.com.au/

Cheers

Thanks TR Laredo. Yes def an option if I can’t get a new one which is certainly preferable. I’ll check them out. Cheers

While I'm not up to date with suppliers or rebuilders of the VM engine I do know with other engines a rebuilt one is usually a far better one than the original, the rebuilt OM612 Merc engine for the WG's had better componets in the rebuild.

I wouldn't bother with Jeep I would go to a proper engine rebuilder, I seem to recall one in Melbourne and Brisbane, they are around I know that.... The cost and after sales service would be better I would think.

That's some bad luck right there. How many k's on her?
I agree with above, if your gonna spend the coin, rebuild it properly, added bonus is you can tweak some stuff while it's unbuttoned

Thanks Grippy and Drover. Some good advice there. Will look into them and let you know how it goes. Only 143000 kms! Certainly is disappointing and keen to keep it if I can! Cheers

Do the cost comparisons carefully i.e. rebuild vs. second hand. Proper rebuild's aren't cheap.

My reaction was the same as TR Laredo, All GC are the go-to guys for a second hand unit. I've seen plenty of late models there, and huge stock in their parts warehouse. If you're in Vic even better as they will supply and install.
