i guess its only $800 bux.. not that much i guess, i just hate handing it over to the pricks when they then tell you you can drive it on the street because you have a small lift and your tyres are only a couple of sizes over stock!

Its not the rego plates most places want to see Ian ... Its the insurance aspect ... as the others have mentioned.

If its not road legal ... It shouldnt be registered anyway ... so its a confusing issue.

Another possibility might be - personal, public liability insurance ... as it may work out cheaper per year than rego/ctp ... if acceptable at public access 4wd play areas in lieu of rego/ctp

If your car isn't legal and you have an accident offroading, you've got no hope of your CTP covering you.

If you're competing in any form of motorsport, your CTP does not cover you. Some event organisers mistakenly believe that it will, but if you read your paperwork there will be an exclusion for motorsports.

But as people have already pointed out, you need 'rego' to drive in a lot of privately owned parks.

Don,t know what you mainlanders have but if it,s an old jeep,(say a cj ,Willys truck etc, over 30 years old ) here in Tassy we have what is called "special interest" rego .
that is, we can use it 56 days a year (1 day a week ,can be 56 days straight ,any multiples, as long as it,s no more than 56 days per year )
My CJ6 has a V8 in it and it cost me $267 per year including CTP (normally $800)
you have to carry a log book (they supply that ) which includes mileage ,trip details, date )
worth the extra mucking about for cheap rego for a vehicle that is a "toy" .
gunna do my Willys in a couple of weeks
my 2 bobs worth !!
