This is probably one of the best ideas yet

There is no such thing as "recovery rated"

MJOC specify that you need "rated" shackles for recoveries but rated grade 80 (T) shackles are rated for lifting, not for a shock load so that's really not relevant (except to know that the shackle is manufactured to a standard), especially as pointed out in the article that there's no formal standard for the recovery points you attach to, or the fixings you use to attach straps / winches etc...

I think a take-away from the post could be: "Use the biggest, meanest recovery points and fixings and light straps." Or maybe "Don't snatch"

And if ARB are quoting 40 Tonnes then with a safety factor in there you could probaby hang a super-tanker off their recovery points... From memory the safety factor on lifting-rated gear is 4:1 so a 4.7T grade 80 (T) shackle is designed to not fail before 18.8T.

I fitted a DBOR bar this weekend. I had a lot of trouble getting the stock bar off as the plastic screws it is held on with just wrecked their heads as soon as I put a screwdriver to them and I ended up taking them off with a hacksaw blade. The DBOR bar went on OK after this, I mounted the centre piece first as I was working by myself and wanted to minimise the weight I had to lift, then I added the ends and loop once the bar was on the car. It was a fairly straightforward install, if anyone is planning on installing one you need a long 18mm socket, I was using a 3/4" one and it would have been easier if I'd had the right one.

Looking good! Not sure how long your front number plate will last though after the first mud puddle!

It is attached with cable ties so it can be removed while airing down!

I did mine by myself as well. I did put the ends on first, then carefully lifted with legs & slipped in the first bolt on one side, then another on the other side. With the weight of the bar on them it didn't slide off, so then I could spin on the nuts & then get the rest of the bolts in & tightened.

I didn't want to be underneath trying to bolt on the ends... As it was I mashed a finger tip & split the nail half way up when the socket slipped off... I think I said, ummm... "ouch."
