Well no updates in terms of fuel consumption but noise, power and cooling I can definitely provide preliminary results.
Noise:
Pretty loud under high revs, sounds a bit like a truck from outside. Inside its loud, but I dont find it annoying as its only usually present when under high load (like booting it off at the lights). I could potentially see it being more of an issue on a long hill climb or the like offroad... but I don't think it will be a problem for me.
Power:
Slight 'seat of the pants' reduction in power, but only very very minimal (so much so that it could be a figment of my imagination).
Cooling:
Okay no hard figures yet because I havent done any 'hot' driving yet. But I would often find prior to this mod that when stopped at the lights during stop start traffic I would often find temps creeping up before causing the Aux fan to cycle on in order to drop it back down. In similar circumstances with my new OBDII reader hooked up I found that my temps sat pretty much dead on 93 degrees (my thermostat is rated too low, I am aware of this). Max temp I have seen since is 95 degrees and this was back to 93 after maybe ten seconds.
More facts as I receive them. Sorry about the delay but I have a fairly terrible belt noise going on at the moment that I have to diagnose and repair.

Awesome hamsteh, I am trialing the XJ solid fan alternative...
I love the noise, and the airflow is mostrous
Unfortunatlely a noticable drop in the herbs department...
I think my thermostat is buggered, because the radiator is still cool when the guage is at 110
Anyone tried running no Tstat ?

not to toot me own trumpet, but increasing the angle of attack of the stock fan makes it more efficient at pulling more air. did this 1 or 2 years ago. stock thermo fan rarely needs to cycle.
the leading edge of the fan blades are at nearly 0 degrees on a stock fan. increase it to 10 to 15 (max) degrees, it WILL MOVE HEAPS MORE AIR.
more blades would do the same trick but....
note, don't over do this. you will "stall' the blades . dropping eficiency.
will take photos if anyone interested

I'm terribly late now but Hayden's catalog is a great source of information. If one can find the stock fan clutch (rockauto.com is the best source, even for information) then it's pretty easy to find a compatible yet heavier duty fan in the Hayden catalog. There is a PDF version and an online version, PDF works best since all the fan clutches are listed.

i like your idea ~ as long as balance is not a problem & the fan clutch can take the extra load put on it.

My understanding is that running no T-stat is most likely going to result in a couple things; a lot of temperature variation in the block (which is undesirable in any metal application) and also temperatures low enough to cause the engine to run in "warm-up mode".
I'm fairly confident that my current system will allow engine temps to sit level at the switching temp of the tstat - which is perfect.

I don't have part numbers but I used a fan hub/clutch for a Holden 253.
Works well and is very noisy.
cheers
