Default XJ 1996 - Repair\Replacement - Body Control Module & Master Window Switch

Hello,
I am looking for a Jeep repair garage\person who can repair a Body Control Module and Master Window Switch for a 1996 Jeep XJ. I am having issues starting the vehicle and have managed to have it towed to a Chrysler garage and they have advised that the BCM and Master Window Switch unit needs to be replaced, they have failed to find replacement parts or numbers so I wanted to see if any one is able to repair them Or if any one sell the new units.

If this is something you can do or point me in the direction of some one who can it would be gratefully received. (Please PM me, Thank you)

I am located in the Sydney area but would be willing to courier the part to a different location.
Thank you in advance.
Sarah

Hi Sarah Don't go to a Chrysler Dealer they will do nothing except rip you off.
Firstly, the XJ doesn't have a "Body Control Module?" I think they are talking about the Power Control Module. The Brains the ECU
Saying that you have a 96 if you need a new PCM it must be Numbers Matching the switch could be sourced from the Jeep Wreckers maybe a new one from rockauto perhaps?
I saw someone saying on the facebook grout XJ Freaks Australia about getting their PCM fixed by a mob in Brisbane anyway there are always people parting out XJ's over there its worth a look.
Good Luck

we need more detail

Mark is correct there is no Body Control module on a '96

So you will need to clarify what the dealer thinks they are talking about

If the vehicle starts at all, it is unlikely to be the PCM, which is the engine computer

describe the situation in more detail how it does or doesnt start please

it is more likely to be the crankshaft position sensor if it starts sometimes, but may be several other things

If it is the PCM, the part number is visible without removing any item from the vehicle, it will be printed on the case "56041 XXX" with the XXX being the last 3 numbers, that is the computer part number, then look that up on the Internet

Opinions vary, but most say that a '96 will only work with a replacement computer from another '96, as years prior have a different system, and later years had an immobilizer

therefore the PCM must be obtained from a wrecker, Ebay, OR, from a specialist supplier of these computers from USA.

cross that bridge when you come to it

the window switch can often be repaired, if not, replaced from another XJ, or ordered from Rock Auto USA, quicker and cheaper than you can get one here

search my posts, I have 3 x '96

keep us updated

edit; If the dealer gets smart with you, let them be aware the BCM originated in the '97 and later years.

'96 is the 1st year with OBD2, but otherwise is the same as 95 and earlier years, which are OBD1

ask him if he has scanned the OBD2 codes and any showed up

Are you sure you have a Cherokee (XJ) and not and Grand Cherokee (ZJ) ?

a '96 Grand Cherokee has a body module
