SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SYDNEY/NEWCASTLE/WOLLONGONG REGION
for LARGE HAILSTONES, DAMAGING WIND, VERY HEAVY RAINFALL and FLASH FLOODING


For people in parts of the
Sydney Metropolitan,
Maitland/Cessnock and
Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury areas.

Issued at 3:52 PM Friday, 29 December 2006.

At 3:50 PM , Bureau of Meteorology weather radar detected severe thunderstorms near the Putty Road south of Putty, the Putty Road north of Colo Heights and Penrith. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. Severe thunderstorms are forecast to affect Richmond, Windsor and Riverstone by 4:20 PM and Horsley Park, Parramatta and Glenorie by 4:50 PM .

Large hailstones, damaging winds, very heavy rainfall and flash flooding are possible.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Illawarra, Hunter, Central Tablelands, Metropolitan, Southern Tablelands, the ACT and parts of the Mid North Coast and South West Slopes Forecast Districts.

Im in Adelaide and it was nice ans sunny and warm then all ov a sudden we got this big boom of thunder from the middle of nowhere... but now its all gone again all the clouds and all.

Yeah, check out the Canberra radar, that's the heaviest rain I've seen for a while!!

I flew out from Newy just before this hit.

Was a bit bumpy in the plane, but we missed it.

Started raining in Avoca Vic at about 1.30 am this morning 31st Dec and it is still raining at 10.44am and is slowly filling up my tanks

The last rain that went thru here filled my tanks from almost empty and there's more forcecast. At this rate we might get thru to autumn without having to switch to Murray mains
