Default Spare tyre location

Well the lift on my wj is all done and I'm looking at new rubber, since I've got more Clarence Im thinking about larger tyres for better offroad clearance.
The current spare lives under the floor but won't accommodate a larger tyre so I'm looking for a solution, any ideas? Te inside and roof are packed up full with all our traveling gear so there not an option.

Co-incidentally we're just packing up for our next trip and I decided to lash out and fit a wheel carrier. Made to order from Formula Offroad, this one is on our WH but they also do WG/WJ models. Talk to ED at 4wdworld.

Pretty straight forward to fit, one end mounts using the 3 holes that the towing loop is fixed to and the other end use 2 of the tow bar mounting bolts. No modifications required other than losing the towing loop. Mind you, getting the tow bar bolts undone was a mission thanks to generous helpings of locktite and minimal access to the bolt head.

Looks alright but from that low rear shot it looks like departure angle takes a backward step. Be interesting to see how they mount their WG version as we do not have those lower body members either side.

Not sure if this solution appeals. I converted my old 2004 WG to dual fuel just after purchasing it new. Not wanting a cylinder LPG tank I went for an 86Ltr 'doughnut' shaped tank in the wheel well. Just like your tyre, the tank was a bit deeper than the standard wheel (same diameter). At the time I had thought about fitting it into the existing wheel well and creating a false floor. However the installer increased the depth by lowering the fuel tank by about 2". Not sure exactly how he did it but I had no problems with it for 9 years.

Obviously this is only any good if the wheel/tyre diameter fits the existing well. I have also heard of people with this problem who have had to reduce pressure in the spare to make it fit and then inflate with a pump when needed. Good luck.

I'm with Fester on this, great idea but it looks like a huge backwards step with the departure angle.
Do you have a link to the WJ/G version by chance?
