Not only do Express Publications (publisher of 4WD Action) own Tigerz11, they also own Roo Systems........ I believe that the Australian CommunicationsAuthority AND the Press Council have very clear and express requirementsfor full and frank disclosure of any business or cross ownership.....especially following the "Cash for Comments" brouhaha with Alan Jones and John Laws all those years ago.....surely not Roothy and all his mates?!?!?

As for the obscenely illegal trucks they feature month after month.....don't even start!

Sure the DVD's are fun, but I wouldn't be smashing up my Jeep the way they do...... but then, they get "their" trucks fixed for "free" by either advertisers on a quid pro quo basis or by Roo Systems which they own......look at the state Milo was in after the Cape, NT and Kimberly trip - it was trucked back to Roo Systems in a container.......same with whatsi's 60 Series Cruiser - it was even part stripped up in WA or NT after they left it parked out on the stree for a couple of days before being trucked to Sydney.........I've been to to same places and didn't need to get trucked back across the continent - neither my Jeep ZG Limited nor my Rangie L322

I have been a fan of a variety of 4WD magazines, including 4WD Action, and the videos that come with them. In general I find them to be increasingly advert laden. For example, in 4WD Action (Aust) #199... of 256 pages, I counted about 120 full page adverts (46%) plus add on the half pages this would be another 20 pages (approx 7%). Then count the articles masquerading as articles but that r really advertorials, you can add another 20 pages (7%). I think a good >60% of all 4WD magazines is advertising, in some form or another. This seems consistent with other forms of print media. They have to make money, I guess.

What r my gripes.

1. It's all very interesting to see what a 4wd will do, but I don't think these magazines provide a picture of what most 4wd owners do with their vehicles. I think that some of the damage that is inflicted on various tracks is downright irresponsible and ought not be encouraged. Even more so, when so many situations are staged for effect, such as the many boggings and winchings.
2. The story telling is also quite disjointed, with a fair bit of "boys with toys" wackerism in the journalistic style of writing.
3. The copy itself is often poorly edited, with an increasing number of errors, coming from a large reliance on spell checkers, rather than good careful reading of articles prior to print.
4. The content, for the most part, is informative in a general sense, but much of the "knowledge" information could be obtained from very accessible other sources, such as the internet.
5. Photography, while at times spectacular in terms of subject matter, is often very poor in a quality sense.
6. The use of colour backgrounds to text is often inappropriate, with text being difficult to read. I have seen as much colour variety in a technicolour yawn after a Friday arvo booze up. It must be a schizophrenic's nightmare to see inside one of the magazines.

Still, I keep buying them!!

Yeah a real can of worms this thread.

For me I stopped buying for a number of reasons, being, I don't mind & I realise that publications need advertising to exist, but fair dinkum, the amount in that mag, especially towards the last third is appalling.

It also pisses me off big that unless you have a Toyota or a Patrol, pretty much forget any coverage, I mean how many times can they do articles on buying a used 80 series or 76, for gods sake, enough already. One article a little while ago showed a number of vehicles with there owners & bit of a story with each one. One bloke had a D4 which had done something 30,000k's in an around the world marathon, or something like that & the only changed was the oil & filter.

That hardly rated a mention, but some other bloke drove his 100 series down to shops & back, got this rave review & Toyota tough bull####, so biased it's almost unreadable.

It also concerns me about the modified Cruisers, Patrols etc running 6,7 & inch lifts, now I would have a very good guess that virtually none of those are engineer certified. That raises a question of ethic's about showing these cars. In my opinion, if the vehicles they have articles on which are always registered are not engineer certified, they should not be included in the mag.

Anyway rant & rave over, but I wasnt aware of the ownership of Roo Systems, is that some sort of partnership arrangement with Haden.

I think the problem is more with the laws than with what 4WD Action shows.

If you like they could stick to cars with 2" lifts and All Terrains so that you dont get any funny ideas about actually using your 4wd..

wow - yeah i didn't mean to open a can of worms. my specific gripe atm was that in the DVD's they have rigs with illegal mods in the states they are in and promote how much better it is and some of the things they do and track torture and damaging the roads they are doign with thier bigger mods. and encouragign people the same thing thougth illegal in the state - the other was the seat belt wearing on tV they shoudl be wearing setabetls doesn't matter how safe / closed / registered the cars or magazines are. NBA - make adds to keep people and encourage them to wear seat belts.. *sigh*

as for the other metnions in here. wow yes i was thinkign to my self flickign througha magazine last night..
parts are availavble for - nizzans / toyotas...... JK jeep that's it nothign else *sigh* does make it VERY one sided and unfair to other people out there!!!
