Default $74 for air filter-- record or what ??

Just got charged $74 by Gold Coast Chryst-ler for a 4lt TJ air filter which is the same air draw area as the PT Cruiser one-- and the same cheap construction --except the missus payed $34.95 for the PT one at her last service a month ago.

Have I got "the record"--OR--has someone actualy managed to pay more ?

A TJ is not a PT Cruiser - thats what you pay for. Might be similar area and construction, but two different things. I believe that is close to what normally you would pay at the dealership for an air filter.

Could you ellaborate on why you think that Mopar air filters are of poor quality? I have been using them with no adverse results on my TJ. I am not saying they are the best technology on the planet, but they are designed for a specific application and seem to do the job under normal circumstances.

I am not trying to be difficult, but wanted to know if you had some test data or specific information that the rest of us could also benefit from.

Mate - get a K&N off Wooders - they come with a starter kit for cleaning and oiling and are more efficient and you can clean after you have been wheeling. The duty cycle for the genuine is based on not being used in dust.....
