I stopped reading at $550-$600 a corner, the rest is irrelevant to me at that price !!! I'd buy another cheap dirt bike for the price of 4 shocks and feel much better about it. Happy with my basic Bilstein 5100's

Cheers

The point was you can buy just as good, brand name shock for around half the price or less that some places are charging.

It's quite possible they all might leak, but a 50% - 60% saving in some cases is a huge amount.

The point is .... a Fox shock leaks and its a multi post big deal.... a few posts later a Bilstein leaks and silence.....

Certainly not a perfect record for either ... but as we've established it does happen occasionally regardless of the brand.

Perhaps even ultra premium shocks have the occasional leak, so lets all stick with cheap just in case.

As for "cut price" at least the FOX can be rebuilt - makes the cheap option not so attractive when you have to throw them away.

Not really since:
1. Depenind on the shock, you could replace once maybe twice before matching cost.
2. the cost of rebuilding can (again depeming on the shock) go a long way to buying onther "cheap" shock.
Like Steve I've had gr re at success with mid range shocks and seen too many people that have bling remote res shocks that they simply don't need or truly benefit from.

yep.. lots of people with remote res shocks who dont even know why they have them or what the advantages are.. they buy them because "they look cool"..

$550ish for 4 Bilstein 5100, life around 40000km (conservatively) for a good shock. $550ish for one ARB, life with a rebuild, forever?? I did 200000km in my XJ in 12 years. So it would take around 10 years of shock replacements before I reached the price of a single set of these ARB shocks at 4 times the price.

That just doesn't make economical sense for me when I would never adjust my shocks, or even drive to the level where I would need the adjustment. Of course if you NEED the adjust-ability or have the cash to blow then why not, but like Wooders says, a lot of people buy the bling shocks just because they are bling and never really need them.

As an aside the Bilstein 5150 did many kms on my XJ, including the cape and the corrugations of the main drag up there and not a hint of a leak, they were a great shock.

Cheers

My Bilstiens are at about 65 to 70k old now so not unhappy by any means and its only one weeping and it hasn't noticeably effected ride quality yet either. Will prob just end up with another set. These were only around $350 delivered from the US so cant complain!
