Sorry - but I still have it - 200,000km on it and going strong, just dirty. If you are buying one though, it's a good read because no-one can fake the history of posting this one so long ago and still hanging onto it. I have replaced a water pump and brake discs / pads. Regular service by myself, nothing special, oil and filters. This is still THE best car I've owned and now it's time to buy another car for work, I'd have another one in a blink. For all the Pootroll and Prada lovers - well, good luck.

Just an update for anyone who followed this very long tale.
Still have the WH GC now with 240,000 km on it and love it.
With one exception.
I cooked it one extremely hot day towing a massive car trailer full of parts on fairly ordinary northern NSW mountain roads.
Overheated and blew a radiator tank. Pretty exciting. Not good.
Fine after replacing a radiator (cheap too for these things) except it always used just a bit of coolant, like it had a tiny drip leak (which it didn't). So one busy hot summer day - after not checking the water for about a month. I cooked it again blowing off the top hose and getting the death rattle to a stop, main street of Byron Bay. Stealership = $260 for a hose and none in the country. From there it has gone downhill, hoses, thermostats, pumps radiators. I've replaced everything on the front and it still overheats, worse every time. So i had the coolant system pressure tested - NOT up to pressure, it holds pressure just fine, but rather FOR pressure.
So the head(s) are NG with possible implications of valve seats and timing chain at this age. Repair or replace? Have you priced a 5.7 hemi replacement - cubic dollars!!
Still a great car to drive - all time favourite in fact, but busted arse and siting in the shed. I dropped the rego - it's run through one tank of fuel in ten months...!
But just found a 5.7 at a wreckers not wanting 'drug money' for it.
So it just may live again. Surely it can't be too much trouble to just unplug this motor and plug in a new one right???

Stay tuned.

Alright I give up.. I bought a replacement 5.7 Hemi for 5K (best price I could find). Ready to do the 'hard-yards' and transfer them. I have done lots of engine swaps in my youth, holdens and chevys, chevys into holdens - you get the picture. When I jumped into move the Grandy into position I collected the key with my knee. Yeah - I know, there was a recall - got the letter right here. Snapped the key right off, had to dig it out with a splinter pick. Now the security light (small red blimp) doesn't want me to steal my own car so I can swap engines... I've had enough.
At some point in time - it's just time to call it quits. Want it?

$5000 - see the original post. If you want the 5.7 Hemi spare engine, low k's it comes too for an additional $5K.

Prior to the key incident I drove the dam thing (fast) up and down the street out front.
Brakes are new, springs, shocks, sway bushes also new - have receipts and old ones if you want them, (all lowered). Radiator new, plus spare, plus water pump new, plus spare, thermostat new, belts new, hoses new, great condition interior, the whole car is in great condition and serviced over-regularly. New plugs, filters etc. Full option pack, heated seats, mirrors, dimmer rear view, defrost outside mirrors, goes (went) like a rocket in style.
Dam I really loved that car, but it has something wrong that I just haven't put my finger on - and I'm over fking about with it.
I'd love you to fix it, but I couldn't care less if you put the good bits in a volkswagon and do the baja rally.
I can't start it but I could roll it onto a truck/trailer. I'm not negotiable because in ten years it will be worth more than 5K in parts (??) and i've got plenty of room to keep it.
Nothing against the WH 5.7 Grandy in general, still near the top of my list, but i'm over this one.
The story continues.....

I have a spare key blank I can send you, just get it cut and transfer the key circuit board over and it should be good to go.

Clarky, I have a spare for the car. It doesn't work. I swapped the guts over, doesn't work. New battery in the old guts on the second key - just in case. Doesn't work. Even held the two broken key bits together in the ignition WITH the new battery..
- The worst part is the steering lock will not disengage, so it's locked, won't start, otherwise a fantastic car that I'd like to burn right now.... If I could just move it further away from the house, but doh! The steering lock..

I think it's just the key tumbler / coder arrangement - maybe the coder had a hiccup in it's rompers and left a surprise in the ECU.
I jumped the starter directly off the pos battery with a big fat cable and it spins ok. It's all about the security blimp and the steering lock. So I reckon it's not working in the coder area somewhere. The 'other' WH I have clicks the steering lock off as soon as you drive the key home, this one does not. Could it be a simple swap?? Or would it involve a stealership. Not keen for that. If anyone is thinking 'gee - I could fix that in a jiffy', come good with some cash brother (or sister - or LGBTIQ, whatever) and it's yours. I've moved on and just don't want it as a garden ornament.
cheers fellow jeepsters.
look me up and come camping one day, Cambridge plateau, lions rd, bass fishing/kayaking all on tap - free to those of the Jeep persuasion.
