Default CJ Chassis

Hello everyone.

I am looking to go ahead and restore my frame back to near its original position.
I've had it measured (not sure how to go about measuring it myself, think it sounds easier than it is) and found out its taken a knock in the front.
I didn't know and realize when I have replaced panels, that places in the frame are bent.
Now everything is back on I want to do it as easy as I can.

I'm open to ideas. I've gone around and visited a few panel beaters, thought about trying to do it with a chain and a tree...

Has anyone done this or attempted to do this before?
What gets the best results?
If you used someone, can you recommend them? (I live in SE Melbourne)

Thank you for your time.

If the rails need spreading you can do that with a high lift jack.
How far out is it. Do you know exactly where it needs to be straightened. HAve you got access to a hoist?

I've had it measured.
But i don't know exactly where it needs to be straightened, im not exactly sure of how i would measure it myself.

The diagonals of the front of the chassis to the skid tray under the gear box reads about a 40mm difference. Like its taken a whack on the front drivers side and pushed the chassis over.

It also tracks unevenly. The front is out 2mm to the drivers side and the rear is out 16mm to the passenger side. I can see a difference when I line my eye up with the Tyre.

Sway bar mount is bent (sway bar also probably bent).

The CJ doesn't have to be perfect but i would like a little better than this.

I don't have access to a hoist atm, but i know someone with one. How come you need a hoist to straighten a panel.

I was kinda hoping i could give the jeep to these people

The main thing is that its straight at the chassis spring shackle mounts, they determine where the diffs sit and if it tracks straight.
Measure mounts front to rear then diagonally front to back on both sides.
Once you know where its out you can either pull it out by attatching a whinch plate to chassis or by using jacks .
Its not rocket science but you do have to be carefull cause your dealing with large forces. Also knowing where to apply force & where to chain down etc needs experience.

you could always try a tafe, they sometimes take in cars to teach there apprentices and all the cost is what materials are used, go chat with a pannel beater teacher.
to pull a twist out of a chassy takes alot of force and it there anything like a tj there quite strong, take care if doing it yourself

An early CJ frame is VERY different to a TJ. it's amazing (not in a good way) to see how much a bare stock CJ6 frame twists when one corner is lifted.
