Default 2.7 CRD bent glow plug, no compression on that cylinder

I had my vehicle at a shop which was to clean the "black death", refurbish the injectors, and refit them with new washers. Well they couldn't get it started again and I had it towed on a flat bed to the dealers.

The dealers replaced 3 injectors and then it started to sound like it wants to start. They now need to take the head off,as there is no compression on the 1 cylinder. On removing the glow plug in that cylinder, they found it to be bent.

I hope its something "simple" such as a bent valve, and not piston and sleeve.

The dealers recon that when the previous shop removed the injectors and replaced the seals they must have dropped something in that cylinder.

They also say it does not look like the injectors was refurbished or even cleaned at all, just new washers was put on.

I know this all theoretical while we wait for them to get the head off but what do you guys think went wrong?

Maybe a leaking injector which caused a hydrualic lock, but would that bend the glow plug?

Maybe some of the crud fell into the cylinder, and when they turned the engine it got stuck in valve forcing it open and then the piston crown connected with the valve bending it, still doesn't explain the bent glow plug I would think.

Broken connecting rod? Wouldn't that have made one heck of a racket trying to turn the engine?

Any ideas

It sounds like something has been squashed between the piston and the glow plug, causing the glow plug to bend. All will be revealed when the head is removed.

Something was probably dropped into the combustion chamber when the injector was removed.

Bummer, piston hit valves. Engine is a write - off. I will be sourcing a second hand engine this week. Any tips on removing the old engine and installing the new one? I will be doing it myself.

So what is the story behind this, why does an injector clean job lead to a piston hitting a valve?

The theory is that when the injectors were replaced that either a piece of carbon soot or another foreign body was dropped into the cylinder. It then got stuck in a valve prohibitting it from closing. Being an interference engine the top of the piston connected the valve with such force that the valve fused to the piston and broke off, the consequent damage to the cylinder wall and head is so severe that repair is out of the question. As I understand, these blocks do not have removable cylinders, even if they do, when adding the typical cost of piston, cylinder conrod etc it does not seem feasable to repair. The dealers does not even want to give me a quote on repair.

I will contact them once the Jeep is running again and I know the full cost. However after speaking to a lawyer it sounds almost like an impossible task to prove that they stuffed up the engine and then getting them to pay for it
