Default JK Random Traction Control Activation

Hi Guys.

Wondering if anyone has had this problem or have any idea what may be causing it.

2012 3.6 JKU. I have been experiencing random activations of the traction control system. Every time, I've been on a dry, smooth, straight bitumen road. The light comes on and usually stays on until the next engine start. Only once has it throttled the motor down when I pulled out of a servo into traffic, much to the annoyance of the traffic around me.

I suspect I may have an intermittently dodgy wheel sensor. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Rod.

When this happened to me called out AA put a scanner on drove around & indicated sensor. Disconnected on drove OK but with all the traction / ABS lights showing.
Turned out to be the wheel bearing at fault at (around 120,000KM's)

Yes, typically a failed wheel speed sensor. Easy to order & replace once you figure out which one is the issue.

Thanks for the replies. I think you have confirmed my suspicions. Don't think it's a wheel bearing (YET) as they normally start whining or rumbling when they are going off. Just have to identify which is the offending corner now.

Regards.

Yes that's the usual tell on wheel bearings, but on this occasion not a sound was heard. Drove perfectly normal at all speeds.

FYI just on on the off chance it's not a wheel speed sensor: If for whatever reason your steering wheel isn't aligned (or like my Jeep had too much play because the steering box needed adjustment), it sometimes confugulates the stability control when you go over a bump or through a dip/pothole, probably because the steering wheel position doesn't match what the ECU is reading from the wheel speed sensors.

Even though the stability control light stays on after it's activated, I have to switch ESP off manually to stop it from intervening again. The first time it happened scared the crap out of me because of the noise from the brakes and the Jeep pulling to one side but I became so used to it that I habitually switched off ESP on start-up.

I'll keep that in mind though the wheel is centred and it usually activates on a perfectly flat and smooth surface.
