Default 2.7 crd black death problem

Hello,

I gave my car to a local garage to fix the fifth injector which suffers from black death. Turns out they broke the injector while taking it out. They expect me to pay for the injector rebuild. Ive seen a friend fix the injector on his car and it took ages to get it out but in the end it came out all good.

Can they just break no matter how careful you are? Or should they pay for it since they broke it.

Yes, they can break when extracting them. This is made worse when "black death" is involved and even more so for number 5 because of difficult access.

I would recommend a new injector for number 5, not a rebuild. You do not want to be replacing it again.

I'll second a new injector over a rebuit one, it will be cheaper in the long run.

I've not seen or heard of an injector breaking but if you've got black death the injector will be glued in their pretty tightly so it's very possible it could break.

I had my injectors replaced by a well-respected local Jeep specialist (I supplied them - he fitted them). Two of the old ones came out unusable - one broken and one bent. In my case, the mechanic knew it was a full new set of injectors going in, so he might have been a little less careful with the old ones. He did tell me half-way through that 4 & 5 were really stuck and he kept the car for an extra few days to soak them in WD40, and warned me that they might not come out intact.

I have an extractor tool but it renders the injector dead as it screws down into the body of the injector after the coil top is removed, I call it my last resort tool...

In most cases, this is the tool you need for number 5 and sometimes number 4.
