Hopefully there aren't too many changes between the model years.

The 60 pin diesel PCM connector is on page 8W-80-71 (page 383 of 472).

The later XJ diesels have a 92 pin connection on the PCM. They also have 2 temperature senders, 1 on head 3 & 1 on head 4. The head 3 one does the temp gauge, the head 4 one is for the PCM (engine control module under the dash).

Interesting!
Mine is a 99 xj diesel
It has no o2 sensor
No boost pressure sensor
Uses the MAF air flow sensor
A 60 pin PCM plug.
Do they have any more ecus? Or just the PCM and ECM?
Struggling to work out what the MSA controller is

It's just those two computers I think. There's no real description of the MSA, even just to explain what the letters MSA stand for. It seems the main job it has is to monitor the electrical system and sensor outputs for faults.

The location is on the right hand wing, slightly more than half way forward. See section 8W-90 for connector locations for the MSA connector location. Shown in Fig 35 for RHD models.
