Default CRD Charging issues

Hi all!

I seem to have a battery charging issue on my CRD. The Scanguage shows voltages fluctuating from 13.8V to 14.6 volt, dependent on engine revs/load of course!

However, trying to start it in the mornings is a bit difficult as it's so slow to crank. I also put the trickle charger on it and it will charge a couple hours to get back to fully charged.

The batteries new, anyone have any ideas on what's going on?

if it's a new battery and you've put a few km on it, it should be charged adequately. may be a problem other than battery. are the battery connections clean and tight? try an auto sparky and get a battery test done to see if battery is faulty. engine earth wire? starter motor as a last resort. is the wire from the alternator tight? few things to look at. so far all the reported starting problems have been caused by battery. good luck mate.

Tassie,

Mine is doing exactly the the same. The battery is only two months old and all connections are clean and tight. On a cool morning it is very sluggish to start and a puff of gray smoke comes out. Doesn't make any difference if I wait for glow plugs of not. No idea why though.

Actually white smoke is too slow a crank speed!

Just speaking to my friendly jeep dealer mate. Evidently a known CRD issue. There's a software fix out there to instal!
