Where can I source a spare key?
Hey guys,
Have owned my JK Wrangler for years now, but have owned only one key. Probably stupid and I reckon it's time to get a spare.
Does anyone have any recommendations on how? Is the stealership my only option?

I got quoted $700 including programming and cutting from the dealer!!!
I bought two on ebay for $20, found a guy on Gumtree who could cut and program them. Unfortunately he couldn't get the push buttons on the key to work (lock/unlock), but did get the transponder for the immobiliser working. So only charged me $60 for both keys.
I wasn't fussed about the buttons not working as it was just to have a spare in case the working key was lost.

Got a third spare at dealership here in England about 5 years back.
Think it was ordered by Vin number, came ready cut and cost around £65 ($120)
Programmed it up for free as they messed me around a couple of times due to staff shortages etc. Nice obliging staff at that time

Know the kiosk key/engraving/boot resoling/astrology/palm reading/magician shop in the mall was able to make me a spare for about $110. No buttons etc but works great as a programmed spare key.

I got quoted $190 from local locksmith for a key with immobilized chip but not remote door locking.
Instead I opted for a basic key $7 to hide under the bonnet for those times we accidently lock the door when you get out of the to open a gate. Does happen. Only good to open a lock not start the car.

Are you in WA? There's a Jeep wrecker in Malaga that does brand new complete keys programmed and cut etc for about $150. They can even do this if you have no key at all to begin with.

Because I fish with the vehicle stopped on the sand a lot, I did the same. Just got a blank key cut and put it around my neck on a chain.
That way I can lock the transponder keys in the Jeep and just unlock it with the new key when I need to.

Sorry for the late reply.

The place looks dodgy, but I've had 2 Jeep keys done there over the years, last one was 2 years ago. If they can't help then drop into Jeep Autoworx just around the corner from them and ask for Bruno, he'll know where else does it.
