The car was still under warranty so they never told me the cost,Jeep spare parts supply is not the best, they had no CVs in country, were waiting on back order from the states.

Well $148.50 later I have low range back.

As I suspected C140 code was present, they basically followed the Star case S1321000016 checks, cleared the codes & said see how that goes

Service department said they contacted Chrysler & if the problem comes back replace the 4WD actuator??? heard that before that's right I told them!

No commitment that Chrysler will repair at no cost so I will just have to play it by ear.

Similarly I finally got low range back today after more than 3 months of back and forth during which the dealer insisted it was a coincidence and I needed a new actuator. How so many actuators, which get used intermittently at best, can wear out is beyond me but they wouldn't budge.

In the end I gave in and ordered an actuator from the US for about half the dealer price and fitted it myself. No immediate change but after getting the FDM reset today it's started working.

I've half a mind to put the old one back in as a test but on the off chance that it is in fact faulty I'd hate to have to go back and get it reset again! Anyway, it's working again at last and hopefully will stay that way. I use it most weekends so will know pretty quick if it isn't.

Wink

G'day all,

Long time reader, first time posting, happy owner of a 2007 CRD GC.

I just thought I should offer a big thanks to you all. I have read a heap of stuff on this forum, and gained a heap of knowledge from you all.

I recently had the N23 update done. I also then lost low range. When I took it back, the dealer hit me up with all the excuses under the sun, all of which would cost me money. Thankfully, everything they said was exactly what had been mentioned in this thread. I hit them up with the fact that they were wrong, and you guys were right.

After insisting they go back and repeat the memory reset step a couple of times, well what do you know? They did the flash properly, and I now have low range back. It has been a couple of weeks now, and I have been into low range about a dozen times. All is still good.

Thanks again, you just saved me a bucket of money.

Cheers, Rob.

Default Also lost low 4x4

It's not often I need to use low 4wd , but i had the recall done a couple of months ago and last Saturday I went to use Low 4wd and got the service 4wd notice on the dash cluster. Will be interesting to see what the dealer has to say.

Clarkey :Just tried that on mine , but it's a no go . Still says service 4x4. Worth a try anyway.
Just rang the Stealer and they will reflash mine on 6 / 1 / 2014. But at no cost. Amazing when you think on the last service they charged $14.95 for windscreen washer fluid. ( must be gold in that there stuff ).

Mention the low-range actuator aka shift motor to them too, and make sure they accept/agree that replacement of it (if found to be faulty after the update.) is also included in the recall.

I think we've had enough anecdotal "evidence" that it is supposed to be included in the recall, at-least enough to justify putting more pressure on the dealers.

It'd be great if someone who has had the actuator replaced at no cost could get something on paper which confirms that fact.
