Don't rely on signposts. They go missing too often. With a decent paper map you will just about everywhere with a minimum of fuss.

You can download PDF maps of most of these areas from Parks Victoria's website which will show open tracks, seasonal closures, etc. Some tracks are sign posted others aren't depending on the area. That combined with a basic GPS device is a good start.

Forest explorer is one of the best resources http://nremap-sc.nre.vic.gov.au/MapS...forestexplorer

An android tablet with androzic and HEMA maps is great for bush navigation.

But I agree, a paper map is fail safe.

But...getting lost is good fun too!

Anything in Toolangi state forest ending with "road" should be ok, try katy creek road coming in from marginal road end. Look out for tree huggers and log trucks!!
