I'm not in South Brisbane, but in the southern suburbs - a little closer to Somerset. I'm kitted out for soldering with a soldering station. I prefer to use the one I'm familiar with. A quality temperature controlled iron makes a world of difference.

What I'll need is clear instructions on what needs to be done. I've not researched playing with the TCM, but I have had mine apart for a clean and lacquer albeit 4 or 5 years ago.

If you want to buy anything, a small can of circuit board lacquer to seal it up after soldering is advisable. The likes of Jaycar have it. Normal lacquer is no good. Circuit board lacquer evaporates with heat to allow soldering through it.

So, all that is needed is a bare pin soldered into the boot terminal? The service cable is then clipped onto the extra pin and the factory connection pins as above, right?

That's a 5-minute job.

For the D44a a truss and a cover are good investments if you plan on any harder offroading. The center section flexes a lot under load.

It just occurred to me that you cannot just change the gears up front. The 3.55 ratio is the cutover on the carrier. Go any shorter than 3.55 and you'll need to change the carrier. If you are doing an entire axle assembly swap with the V8 one (what I thought you were doing) then this is already taken care of.

The rear carrier is universal across the range of ratios.
