Well today I burnt some diesel on a 400 odd km run to Brissie and back, god I hate cities, 8.4l/100 on cruise most of the way at a doller13, didn't refuel when I got home as its at $2.07 and I'm hoping it may drop over the next day or so.... Brissie places still up at $2.20....................

Sooo, I've been mucking around with the storage area for a while now, I had a false floor with drawers when I did the Simmo, great, organised, however heavy and I tended to carry a lot of crap around that I didn't need. I next went to a split ply floor, great, but, not as convenient as I'd like. Now with the spare being a 285 it sticks up a bit, just enough for a full bit of ply to sit on it and all around the edges, here is my next creation. Made for maximum lightness and ease if I need to access the spare (with drawers it was a massive ball ache).
On the right, battery, space for the compressor to live and the fridge in front of it all, on the left, tons of room for my tubs, 1 with spare parts, 1 with cooking gear, another with food. I've also purchased 4 of those Kings canvas bags with the clear tops, no idea what I'll put in them yet.
This way I have a little space left over at the end on the left where I have enough room to whip up a coffee on the side of the road or track and get moving, I can also access the fridge perfectly through the rear window
If I need to access the spare, unbuckle the fridge and rip it out, whip out the tubs and battery, go for it.
Back seat will house the swag, stretcher and chair. Done, no fluffing around with needless crap anymore!

Haha, thanks mate, Im still a little young to be a caravan 'enthusiast' !
Will be keen to take a peak? I like being able to set up camp in under 10 mins, bought a new 'swag' recently, haven't used it yet, it's and Oztent setup, looks the goods!
Love to be able to break camp in the time it makes to have a coffee

You blokes are following a well worn trail for sure, we have moved thru the tent and swag, off road camper, small expanda van and now a full blown rig with bells and whistles, as we started to creak so our camping gear changed, still off grid 99% of the time and set up is sorted in minutes not hours some some who bugger around like a dog getting settled, long camps by a river are most enjoyable..... sleeping on the ground went out many years ago, in fact even on military exercises I gave that a miss so lets say decades ago.........

Funny how priorities change as the years go by. I am selling my business and retiring this year...have had enough.
We too have been through the tent stage, loved it, camper trailer stage, enjoyed that too, and now in to a poptop van with an ensuite.
It did come back to set up time, but mostly over being on the ground during rain storms where often there'd be a river of water cascading under the tent...or camper floor. (soft floor) And almost without fail it would rain during the night before having to pack up a wet tent. We have the ability now to stop overnight almost anywhere rain hail or shine...
Look forward to getting away far more often going forward...
