Default Leaking sump gasket...

just the latest...looks like Larry might have a leaking sump gasket now. I crawled underneath this morning as there has been a small oil patch left on the garage floor. There is an oil film around the back of the sump and a small amount of oil running back and dripping off the transmission cooler pipes.

Speaking to my repair shop 7 Slot this morning they said they have had a spate of them recently, including Todd's own Jeep. It is the metal gasket between the top half of the sump and the block it seems, the lower sump half is siliconed to the top half and that hasn't been an issue.

So booked in next week for the repairs...

...don't know whether they'll have to undo engine mounts and lift the engine a bit, or drop the front diff to allow the sump to be dropped, it would have to be one or the other i'd reckon?
As you note Drover...be a prick of a job either way!

The blokes down at 7 Slot always amaze me how quickly they get these difficult jobs finished though.

Unlike a Dealer charging a "book" time, they only charge labour for the time actually taken.

Update...had the Jeep in at 7 Slot this morning to have a look at where the oil leak might be. It seems one of the oil pipe unions feeding the turbo may have been the culprit.
They were able to nip it up a tad so that hopefully will have fixed it.

I'll monitor it anyway...

To fix this Todd said it if it still leaks is a fairly big job as the oil feed pipe can't be removed to replace the washers without full access to the turbo, meaning dropping the whole engine cradle and removing the turbo.
There is apparently a "kit" that comes with all the necessary washers and seals to replace them all.

Fingers crossed it is ok now after being nipped up. If it has to be done I'll have the intake manifold cleaned at the same time as it is off again too...

It could be the oil drain gasket, they fail and make a mess, didn't think the engine needed to be dropped or moved to get turbo out but lots of stuff need to be pulled off.. I read it up and thought bugga that as I was investigating an oil dribble at rear of mine.... thankfully closer investigation found some messy bastard had slipped oil during a filter change and it had run along a cable to scare the crap out of me......... I severely admonished my mechanic then sat down and had a few beers... He's a damn fine bloke, only a bit of swearing.
