Default wh front end clunking

Hello All, I noticed a clunking sound when over small bumps in road, sounds like both sides of front end, don't know if shockers or what, off to FNQ in 2 weeks, hope nothing serious, Regards, Hicko.

Sounds like sway bar bushes, disconnect one side and see if the noise is still there? Mine are shot , I've done 100000ks.

Hey Wilsonjeep, do you know if this could be a drama, towing van up to Q'ld? or will it be just a clunking thing? Regards Hicko.

I've had a clunking noise too, and replaced the struts and coils (well that was my excuse to do a lift and I'm sticking with it) but alas, no fix.

Some say it is the steering box, that needs a bolt tightened about 1/4 a turn. I haven't had this done, but have replaced the sway bar bushes.

At the same time I had these replaced, my mechanic said there are four bolts holding each side of the front suspension to the chasis. He said with a normal spanner, you couldn't budge them, but with a long handled spanner and pole providing plenty of leverage, they all had substantially more left to tighten them. Over a couple of turns.

Sadly, I don't know which fix fixed the clunk, as they were both done at the same time but it is solid as a rock now.

I'd try tightening the bolts first, then the new bushes.

Excuse me if my description of the four bolts is incorrect. It may be less, but I can't get there now to have a look to check. It's just what I was told a couple of months ago.

At 120,000 WH Towing 2800kg caravan.
We have replaced the top and bottom ball joints, they can be tricky to pick up movement.
I picked up lower ball joints for about $30.00 ea
Top control arm complete $65.ea .
Lower control arm bushes drivers side only $60.00
But got charged $277.00 to push the old ones out and new ones in.
Suggest buy a complete lower control arm that will do the ball joint at the same time...$270.00
I also replaced sway bar bushes $60.00 and sway bar struts $20.00 ea.
Have a look at bolts too holding it together, they step down a couple mm in the shaft combine with bush wear, new bolts could also quieten things down, get 10.7 strength, they are cheap $3-$5.00 ea from engineering suppliers.

All this came about because the Jeep was bouncing too much towing so we put in new shocks, struts and HD Anderson springs.
Which hardens everything up and makes bits that are wearing knock and rattle in the front suspension.

Problem is playing with any of this stuff you are in for a wheel alignment, I chopped out front tyres 10,000klm early because I didn't!

I have just put Commander rims and AT tyres on and on to allow 265 tyres in the future, think I noticed a knock / rattle on the right.

Bugger the only thing left is that steering adjustment,
Anyone know of a UTube or detailed instructions how to check that?
