I am with aami, extra bits are covered, but you have to ring them. List your mods and what they cost, all good. Anything that has been modded will require talking to them no matter what company it is.

I was with GIO Platinum.when I lived in Sydney and they were easy, cover everything on the car no list required... but when I moved to QLD they suddenly refused to insure anyone in QLD luckily the jeep was less than 13 months old when I did so I could get platinum with Suncorp... Ironically parent company to GIO, and they will cover anywhere I may live in Aus.

I think, if I remember correctly they, GIO, won't cover anyone living in SA, QLD and TAS.

Suncorp have been good so far, although no claims. after the mods I just need to increase the value of the car and they will cover any legal mod, no list required.

Suncorp won't cover aftermarket, turbos/superchargers, roll cages, and a few other things like that

Give Budget Direct a shot. I was with AAMI, but I left after 8 years (3 different cars, never made a claim) because they wouldn't increase the agreed value for my added bits, dropped the agreed value by over $5k in the space of 12 months and upped my premium by $350 just because I moved house a kilometer down the road. (Still in the same suburb)

Budget Direct accepted the modifications without any dramas and gave me a decent agreed price (Market price plus the new cost of my aftermarket gear) for a premium that was less than AAMI.

Thanks everyone! Looks like I got plenty of homework before tomorrow arvo! Will check out Youi and GIO. Already tried Budget Direct - have a quote on hand, and now need something to compare it to.

Also, looks like the weather here is about to turn nice for my pickup! Here is Melbourne - not pleasant today.

GIO are easy, all you need is a VIN number (can supply rego details later) & your covered anywhere in Australia as long as you are legally allowed to be there. Cape York & Fraser Island included.

Or DONT.
Ask any panel shop owner about them. Theyre only so cheap because they'll not pay, or cut corners.

If youre a club member, go Shannons. Ive made a few claims across heavily modified 4wds (probably more modded than most on this site) and thy never once questioned any claim.

I had a car repaired whilst insured by budget direct. They cut every corner, used second hand parts and I wasn't happy. The panel beater was reputable but I saw the quote sheets and budget direct cut back on everything. I wouldn't recommend them for a nice car, maybe for something old you aren't too fussed about. It wasn't until a few months later I realised it was very average when I was selling it. Sure the panel shop should take some responsibility but budget direct does cut every corner.

Racv was cheaper for my Jeep for better cover with less stupid terms and conditions.
