Default tops, half doors, tube doors, fabric doors

They tell me summers coming so I reckon it's time to get the jeep all opened up, my original top has been lost so looking for some suggestions, the bestop nx glide has my eye because it looks easy.

Very much considering doing the doors as well, I love no doors but it's a bit much down the highway and not sure how the coppers feel about it, half is enough but tube with a fabric cover is probably what I'm ideally looking for, I saw bestop does something like this but first youtube result made them look very bad. Main thing is to be able to whip out some form of weather proofing because it rains sometimes.

Please tell me what you're running / have tried and thoughts

Have a look at the last 3 or 4 pages on the what have you done to your JK thread. Theres a pic of Banshee's tube doors as well as the ones that I just bought. I'm just waiting for my mesh inserts before I fit them. They really shouldn't be open because you are supposed to be able to restain everything in the cabin.

The beauty of the ones I bought is that you can lock them to stop anyone trying to pinch them. They are available from SBR but you will need to purchase the mesh elsewhere.

Do you run these on a day by day basis or just get wet if it rains?

I believe Banshee runs his day to day in the Summer months. Mine are only for hot days on the beach or bush when the top's down. I'm pretty lucky where I live, the Watagans are 5 mintues away and the beach is 15 minutes.

I run the hard top in Winter and soft top / Smittybilt Cres net in Summer.

Yep, mine go on once it warms up to 20+ during the day. If it rains, I'll put the soft top back on.

As for tops, I have one of the original Bestop Trektops. Not even the NX!. It can be a pain, so it only goes on for days like Friday when it was raining lots. Water does get in the sides and if it is really heavy you can get a lot in. That's when I just pull the carpets out & leave them in the carport to dry. Takes me about 5 minutes. Usually end up putting them back in when I put the doors back on... That takes me about 15 minutes.

I'm looking at replacing the Trektop since it is about 7 years old now and is a pain to get back on at times. It doesn't have the overcenter clamps like the OEM & newer ones do, it has a couple of atachments that you have to screw in at the front. The Glide looks like a really nice replacement.

This is with the Trektop on:

The only comments I've had are how good it looks, even from police and the guy who rode past me in the recumbent bike in the slip lane when I was stopped at lights!

The irony is, that I got a Jeep in the first place because I stuffed 2 discs in my back ~20 years ago and needed a more upright seating position & the TJ didn't look like every other 4wd on the road. I really liked driving topless, but a rare side effect of the anti-inflammatory tablets I have to take means that now I'm allergic to sunlight. Even on overcast days! So these days when I'm out I look more like this:

Hence, no surprise I've had a few conversations with the police in the last few years! No problems, though. They usually end up just saying that it looks great too!

Get the impression the glide itself won't take soft uppers but looks like their tubes do and there's some form of storage skin for the lower part, am yet to find anything similar so may be the go depending which tops theyll actually work with and how much of a procedure is involved.

Not really waterproof but should be enough to get me out of trouble, main concern is the gear in the dash, don't care if i get wet, carpet may be an issue but if it's causing headaches maybe bedline and be done with it next summer.

Setup you guys have going looks sweet, time to have a bit more fun with this thing I reckon.

The inside of the windscreen and dash get spray on them when you are driving at 60+ when the rain gets heavier. My '08 dash has had no problems with rain, though. Even when stopped at lights, those few times.
