Default "whistling" sound coming from engine bay. 2.5 TD

Hi jeepers,
few weeks ago it started a whistling sound coming from engine (or turbo?) during acceleration (2000-2500 rpm).
Any recommendation what to check?
Ideas how to check that the turbo is still fine?

My xj has 230.000 km and it's a dd. Perfomances haven't changed

Could be a very many things.

I would start by checking all your intake/discharge and vacuum hoses for leaks/loose clamps.

Then check your exhaust gaskets near the turbo for evidence of leaks, ie. soot around the flanges.

Put a spanner on your intake manifold bolts just in case.

It is more likely to be something along those lines than the turbo itself, but it would pay to check it when you have the intake hose off.

Check for excessive oil in the intake (very small amounts are normal for that sort of kms) excessive shaft play (if you know what you are doing) any damage to the fins or evidence the compressor wheel has been contacting the housing.

These are good places to start.

Hole in the hoses or intercooler.

thanks to all for the comments.

Didn't have time yet to take an accurate look at the engine bay but the turbo is clean, however it's oily very close to it, where the thermostat sits. I will try to post a pic tomorrow

I had a sound like that last night after I swapped the throttle body. Simply hadnt done it up tight enough.

Stethescope helped locate where the sound was coming from
