Default Adding cruise control- 2003 2.8 CRD

I have a first gen 2.8 without cruise.
is adding it as simple as getting the wheel controls, the extra wiring piece and having it enabled in the computer? or do i need the vacuum unit/stepper motor from some other models.
I'm not sure if i have DBW accelerator, or 100% mechanical.

I have a 2002 Sport which I added cruise to. Luckily for me the guy who sold it knew more than the techs at the dealer and he actually advised them on how to do it. Unfortunately I don't remember a lot as it was quite a few years ago. I do remember that no extra parts were required.

Depending on your location I'm happy for you to have a look at mine. I'm in Brisbane.

Is yours a crd and preferably auto- or petrol?
If crd, then what I’ve since found from googling suggests it won’t be hard- beyond sourcing the switches and a new cable to the steering wheel plug- then getting a drb3 to activate the cruise function.

Mine is the 2.5CRD manual. It's speed driven and not rpm so I don't think the difference in transmission will be an issue.

Where are you located?

I’m in Adelaide.
I’ve just ordered a complete steering wheel from eBay (Brisbane) I’m about 89% sure I’ll be able to plug in the new harness to clock spring and either work right away- or after a place with drb3 resets the cruise feature.

My May 2002 Export 2.5 CRD Manual came without Cruise Control, Radio Controls etc.

I had to replace the Clock Spring and it definitely did not have extra copper tracks on it to cater for any of the above functions...only had 4 or 5 copper tracks if I recall correctly.

The new Mopar Clock Spring was fully populated with all the additional tracks so maybe you will need to replace the Clock Spring.

If you do work in that area be very careful....disconnect the battery completely and short the Positive battery Lead to chassis/engine for a half hour to discharge any capacitance in the system that could set off the airbags.

The new Clock Spring comes fitted with a plastic shipping pin that keeps the Spring in position...you remove the plastic shipping pin once the Clock Spring is in place.

So an update.
I can confirm that kj1 (02-04?) 2.8 110kw automatic diesels can have cruise added by simply adding the buttons and the small patch lead from the clock spring to the new switches (and existing horn)
Really happy with the result.

I suspect it will be the same process for 2.5/110kw 2.8 manuals (did they exist?)
It seems the 05 update (120kw) also introduced a new car computer system, which means as well as the buttons/wire, you’d need to get the computer reset/updated to enable the cruise system. That’s the only other step involved.

I’ve also bought the audio switches and a clock spring to support them (need 5 pins rather than 3) and will be ordering the little box that allows these to work with my Sony stereo.
