Hi Projoe

Thanks for your response.

And, yes - actually I did replace the battery. When I got back home after 6 months away- the battery was dead. It was 3 years old, so there was no surprise in that. They don't last long in the tropics. So I bought another battery and it started OK. Is there a clue in that?

Hi Mighty Mouse. Yes, spot on. But I am having trouble finding a top shelf diesel engineering company in Darwin. the main one that I have used before (for my Landcruiser) has closed up shop in Darwin. So I am looking for just what you say right now. Thanks.

Hi Mike
I have to admit that I don't know what an EGR valve is. But in the notes of work done by the dealership is the comment: "Removed and cleaned EGR valve. All OK". So maybe that covers that possibility.

They checked the hoses over as well. They are new aftermarket ones. But you are right to point to the fact the car was standing for 6 months. This is especially problematic up here as the wet season is oozing hot and wet humidity. But if the turbo works at low and high revs - logic suggests that it can't be corrosion?

Thanks for coming back to me - I need all the help I can get. This is where forums are brilliant.

Hello NT Rubicon

I am already jealous of your Rubicon - especially if it goes!

The turbo hoses are new and look pretty good. Also it is unlikely that the engine would starve at mid range revs but be OK at higher revs if the hose was sucked closed. They did try swapping things with other vehicles but my 2007 diesel manual is a bit of a rarey apparently. Hard to get identical bits.

Thanks. I hope you are still enjoying your blissful weather down there. It was 38 here today - ugh!

A thought, have you considered corrosion on the contacts of the TIPM?
Has anyone unseated the unit and had a look at the contacts?

Hello OldNuts. Sorry, - RustyNuts

Since May I have continued to drive the car around the Darwin rural hinterland - avoiding fast roads. In that time I have topped up with a few spurts of new fuel.

Thanks.

Hi Grippy

Maybe you are entering into fertile territory. Both the dealership mechanic (who is a Jeep specialist and has been working on them for 12 years and never seen a case like this before) and the local mechanic suggest an electrical problem. But this is tricky - I am told - as new cars don't always use old fashioned copper wire. It can be a fibre optic type of wire which does not show hearth leakages or similar. Ahhh, lets hear it for progress!!

I will make a note of your comment and put it to the experts up here when next I talk with them.

Thank you
