Default 285/70r17 tyres

I need to replace tyres on my stock JK and want to fit 285/70r17.

Any feedback from those who have fitted them would be appreciated. If these are considered too big for a stock unit what next size down would you recommend.

Cheers

Do you have a lift? Never mind Just read stock.... You will have lots of rubbing on things like sway bar... pinchwelds, inner guards... 265 would do..

Not without a lift. Go with 265s.

You don't mention what year and engine you have. If you had a lift you might get away with it on a diesel or even a 3.6 but If it's a 3.8 petrol, 285's would kill top end power due to their size with standard diffs.

There does not seem to be much difference between the standard 245/75r17 tyre and the 265/70r17.

Any advice on 255/80r17

Its mainly for driving on beach sand and bitumen

Cheers

You're right, there isn't much difference between the 245s and 265s that's why those tyres were recommended without a lift.

You shouldn't have a problem with 255s either.

I've owned a manual 3.8 JK and 285's just kill any kind of top end power. On the freeway, 6th gear becomes unusable. Also towing becomes a pain.

I had a 2" lift but stayed with 265s as they were a good size without sapping power as I did most of my driving on sand or towing a camper long distances.
