Ok so I got a new battery to get me by (was a supercharge gold fm50) hooked it up and still wouldnt crank over. I put my original back in and cleaned the terminals. Yes there was decent corrosion on the + terminal so rather than file it back, i had a new terminal and filed the corrosion off the terminal, cleaned up good. battery light on (lightning symbol with a line either side of it) and u could hear something clicking its head off (assuming starter motor) could see it was moving the belt slightly on the alternator each time it clicked) then it started!
Went for a drive, all good but still with the lights on its just got a surface charge....went to the supermarket. Start again and it started easier but noticeably struggling. Ive now got it under the carport on charge with an auxilary charger which should fully charge it in a few hours.
If anyone is around tonight reading this before I check the car and take it for a drive tomorrow (and it might still be problematic) what else could it be?
-cant be corroded terminals, all cleaned and filed
-cant be battery, tried another one and it didnt even eventually start with it like the stock one did
-cant be starter motor because the car starts no probs when its jump started
-alternator? Surely if the alternator was screwed the car would die on the road because all charge in the battery would be lost and it wouldnt even start at all
-relay? I got no idea.
Open to any and all opinions. If i still got probs tomorrow ill call jeep assist (but can they run diagnostics on the spot or are they just useless and need me to take it to a dealer?)
Cheers guys
