Just did a trip from brisy to Dubbo on 2 tanks, Dubbo to Sydney on 1 very hilly, Sydney to Brisbane via Coast Road just over 2 tanks all fully loaded and towing a camper tailer with average speeds of 100 to 110ks per hour and cruise control made it no problem.
We average 16Lt/100Ks around Brisy too.
In Sydney traffic the heat gauge went up to 104deg then the electric fan cuts in and takes it back down to around 97(my normal runing temp).

Can someone explain to me (in simple terms "I'm not a smart man") what the issue with speedo gear is? Does this apply to my '99 XJ too.
Cheers,
Adam
PS. I agree with the other comments. Their is a dramatic change in economy for highway. I was actually pleasantly surprised on a recent trip Newcastle-Ballina at how well it did. At one stage I think it was somewhere round 14L/100k on the trip comp.

If you change the rolling diameter of your tyre/wheel combination, then the speedo will not read correctly.
To compensate, you can change the speedo gearing to match the new rolling diameter. This in turn will give you correct speed, distance and fuel economy readouts.

Woody, I have a chart on my site which lists all the different tyre and diff ratio combinations and the speedo gear you should be running.

Jambo figures - $324 on fuel for the week (including driving around melb for a few days after Jambo). I got 14L/100km on the freeway there and back (I think new non-leaking headers helped there) and about 20L/100km around jambo (off road, soft tyres, in mud, etc).
Pretty happy with this result.
