Nice welding!

Do you have an estimate of the total weight of the vehicle?

I "estimate" the race weight of the car to be 1157 kilograms.

The bracket has to be strong but as light as possible without sacrificing strength in all planes. The image above shows it is after initial machining, shaping and welding.

Over the weekend I will finish the machining and remove the material that is not required and post an afterwards pic.
Hear is the bracket prior to relief machining; weight is 848grams.

After the first relief pass, weight is reduced by 140+ grams but I still have a ways to go.

Default CTM Universal Joints

.
And now that I have remebered to log in properly, here are the steering universals. These are CTM uni's that were sourced from Mathias Nolte in the ACT eons ago. Mathias is the AU distributor for this product. If you have to run uni's which are actually inefficiant compared to CV's and you have DANA 44 or 60 steerers, then the CTM product is the ultimate in bomb-proof uni's.

Notice how the universal body is relief machined just enough so you can fit them into the yoke. Inners are 35 Spline DynaTrac's and the outers are 35 Spline off the shelf Spicers.

There is some aditional machining of the yoke required if you wish to utilise the full circlip as supplied by CTM, but it is worth it for the most bomb-proof installation. This relates to applying as equal a stress retention as possible in the cross shaft but most folks start nodding off about now, so please forgive me, I'll stop.

And a further edit for the record; let's correct old mate's weight in the image for the post above and add another 1000 gramms to the value hey?
