Default Xj td oil pressure

Took the diesel for a drive today , and after about 20 mins drive home from work , after letting it sit idle for about 15 to 20 seconds after getting home it dropped to this

Oil is less than a tank of fuel old, and is a 15w40 and the outside temp is only 26 degrees , and I wasn't pushing it , it doesn't go lower than this pressure , but just wondering if I could have a build up infront of the sensor or a crook sender , or something as my other diesel stays a good half way on the gauge at most times unless it's really hot , this one goes up and down quiet a lot

That's about where mine sits at idle, and it moves around depending on rev range but at constant mid rpm it sits around half

What oil was it, I'm assuming it will be a semi synth like a valvoline but curious to know. Tbh I wouldn't be too worried here. As the oil heats up and becomes more fluid therefore when the engine isn't revving much the pressure will be a bit low. As MM said at a constant mid rpm 1-2k it should be around the halfway mark.

Is there oil leaking from anywhere ? Low pressure could also mean a leak in the oil system, however if it were this low at OP I think you would have mentioned it earlier on

Yea it sits fine at normal running , around half way , and on cold starts it goes a notch and a bit over half , just it moves around a lot more than the gauge in my other xj td , so I was a bit worried

The difference between the 2 is probably more to do with the sensor/sender than the actual oil pressure.

My gauge went berserk on a recent rip. It would flick up to max instantaneously and the check gauges light would come on. It would then quickly return to normal. It happened several times on the trip but not since. A faulty sensor or bad connection.

FUNNY THING WITH A DIESEL OIL GETS sooty (DIRTY) A FAIR BIT , SO CARBON CAN BE A WORRY , what type of oil did you put in ? did you change brand ? sometimes when you change oil carbon can come loose , due to the fact different oils use less/more detergent , try pulling out the oil sensor and drop a little diesel down the feed , leave it for a bit and shake it out , see if it improves , also look at the colour of oil , see how sooty it has become , check your sensor for leaks , or damage , I have run in so many times people wondering where oil spray comes from and they can not find the leak , and of course , the good OLD oil pressure switch .
