Multihull - if this Transgo shift kit works like the one for the 5 speed 545RFE trans found in the WJ and KJ, it's main benefit will be firming up shifts and reducing the clutch slippage, therefore decreasing wear and associated heat. Considering your predicament now it could be cheap insurance for you.

Where are you getting your second hand trans from? Why are they so cheap? Is it because it's out of a Mercedes Sprinter van?

Thanks Hanna & Clarky, I went back and read the tech details on this Transgo kit and have decided to give it a go. I have found it elsewhere a lot cheaper plus I decided to also buy their rebuild kit for the my 722.6 / NAG1 transmission which includes the troublesome clutch plates. This will save me AU$500.
Here's the links for the parts:

Now the transmission has been removed. There's so many parts to take out before you can get to the tranny. Half of the cars mechanics have been removed and scattered and the workshop.
The transmission appears to be in very good condition but the B2 clutch pack is showing the wear. This was what I though could be the issue before I started so it good to confirm a diagnosis.
Now I'm waiting for the complete rebuild parts to arrive from the USA. The company I bought them from are very doggy. More on that in another thread once I've claim down and gather the facts.

The price for this kit is high and it's cheaper just to change the transmission over despite the mucking around and time but I enjoy doing this stuff.
Have you seen this kit?

My WJ (with NAG1) has a 500 rpm flare upshifting from 3-4 and apparently the problem are the shift overlap sleeves.

Thanks, Yes I have seen the Sonax value repairing systems and I have checked my value body for wear and this is not the issue. I'm doing a clutch pack rebuild and I'm also upgrading the value body with a Transgo Shift kit too. When the parts finally arrive....... still waiting.

One interesting bit of wear I found was the B2 clutch plate teeth were wearing quite badly so the gap between the teeth was getting larger, maybe just under 1mm wider gap. I'm not sure if this was because of the flaring or the clutch plates getting thinner and not gripping properly.

In that case, I sure hope the flare on mine is not clutch pack related.
Did yours do it regardless of oil temperature?
