Default Antenna install and cabling inside?

Hey guys, finally getting around to sorting out all of the issues the PO of my jeep has bestowed upon me and next up in my UHF.

Between my mates and I, I can only get reception if they are within 100m or so and I think we have found the culprit, however not sure what the best way to move forward would be.

As you can see in the pictures the Antenna is mounted at the front via a spring base, however the coax cables just runs straight up into the antenna.

They don't attach anywhere and I'm certain that the shielding touches the internal wire.

Should the internal cable in the coax attach somewhere on my antenna or should I just strip the shielding back and leave it inside?

I wouldnt mind getting a new antenna but I'm going away in a few days and have already spent my jeep budget for this fortnight.

Ahh no, that has snapped off.

Please do NOT continue to use the radio, especially transmitting until you either fix or replace it. You will destroy it.

There was a thread on here recently that had the same issue and he was able to repair it by unscrewing at the middle join (the top of the elevated feed section - just above the silver wrap in the middle of your first pic) and solder it back together.

The reason this has happened is not enough slack left in the cable below the antenna.

Yep, it's definitely time to replace it. As Seacomms mentioned, don't transmit until it's repaired otherwise you will damage your radio.

Thanks guys, Sorting the issue now.

Ive found where it's snapped. There is more cable in the cab, so I'll pull it through and fix the connected end.

Cheers for the help.
