Smashed go and get a caramel wheel from a good car paint shop fits on a drill will take it off in about 2min's
I used one of these to remove all the decals of my Classic took about 1/2 hr for the whole car, did it in my lunch break with a cordless drill. Any of the auto paint shops will have them. They are caramel in colour and also simply called a "pinstripe removing tool/wheel"

Wish I'd have known this... Took me a weekend to remove mine painstakingly with a razorblade......

I have the same XJ as yours and I can assure you that your jeep does have remote central locking.You might not have got remotes with it but there should/will be a small black dome, kinda looks like a light or a tiny version of those cctv domes you see in the mall, it should/will be above the rear vision mirror on the roof.All you need is a remote (which you can still buy new) and then it takes about 5 minutes to code at home.It's all in you owners manual.
