Default Upgraded/aftermarket intercooler

Can any one tell me if there is a company who makes aftermarket performance intercoolers for the 2.8 diesel wranglers.

To me it seems strange that they have exhaust upgrades and chips/remaps but I can not find any intercooler up grades.

A free flowing intercooler makes a world of difference to a turbo diesel. Whilst we are here is there better turbos available as well.

Cheers guys.

The KJ CRD guys have been looking at this for years. Your problem will be that the stock intercooler is part of the cooling stack which are mounted as an assembly. If you put in an alternate intercooler and repipe that then how would you remove the old intercooler. If you can't remove the old one then why replace it at all. There are misting systems available, like the one I have from Hayden Automotive and that can help cool charged air but the stack design makes other changes difficult.

Forgot part gwo of your question. GDE make turbo upgrade kits for the 2.8CRD engine so you could ask Keith, at present these are only used on the KJ VM engine and some adaption might be required, worth asking him.

hi I think the standard intercooler is good enough it is really large especially for a standard unit

however if I ever was going to do it I would remove it and fit a water to air intercooler they are much more efficient in cooling as well as minimal pressure drop

That way you can also fit an aftermarket transmission heat exchanger in the space you have gained from a moving the standard intercooler

are you running a chip if so I recommend you remove it and fit a proper reflash such as the GDE

also there is already a company making a 3" stainless steel turbo back high flow exhaust to fit crd jk

Two other companies are looking for vehicles to design of

Thanks for the replies.

I am still unsure if I should make the swap from defender to wrangler.

There are a lot more different things then changing an intercooler turbo when looking at Changing from Defender to JK wrangler.

I changed from Discvery TDI manual to JKU CRD auto and am more then happy and would look at Murchison Products Ugrade program GDE Tune
http://www.murchisonproducts.com.au/performance.php.
But the two vehicles are a lot different but retain similarities only on that they have solid Axles.
