Default JK CRD Gearbox question

Hi all,

just wondering if anyone can help with the following -

Looking to purchase a JK CRD automatic pre-2011 model in the UK. Can anyone confirm which model of automatic transmission this will be fitted with?

There is very little on the internet to suggest which model transmissions the CRDs got but I am hoping that it's the 545RFE rather than the 42 RLE.

If not, is there a quick and easy way to tell by looking underneath?

Cheers

It's either a 545rfe or the newer Mercedes box. Not the same 4 speed as the petrols.

99% certain it should be a 545RFE, the 4speed was never in the CRDs

2011 or 2012 models got the merc box (NAG1 / WA580) but they also got a tiptronic mode with the interior update

if its a diesel, without tiptronic, id say its a 545RFE

look up the shape of the transmission pans

i think the 545 has a bump off the side where as the nag1 is more rectangular

545 is good, solid and rated for big v8s. can be a bit slushy
it can run hot here in aus, but in uk it should be fine
just swap the fluid out regularly and theyre decent

Like any auto the enemy is heat. As Australians love to point out the UK never gets hot! No reason to be more worried about it than any other transmission.
