Post Jeep 4.0L Tupy Head

Hey guys

I'm after a 4.0L tupy head for my '00 XJ and was wondering if anyone knew where I could get hold of one here in Oz?

Cheers

Will

I can only think of fitting a used head from the wreckers..I know they sell them, as I have seen headless ones..

there is a guide somewhere to say what year heads are interchangeable, desirable, or best avoided.

I would Google that

A source is WG from 2002 onwards they all had TUPY heads.
But most of the I6 WG’s are still running well as they are such a dammed reliable engine,
so supplies might be thin on the ground.

I had a bit of a read up on them, and they are a good upgrade. Never came on the XJ, as started around 02/03. I believe you have to look in the oil filler cap and you can see TUPY cast into the head between the rockers.

It would be a ring around the wreckers, or check Gumtree to find one of these on a wrecked 4.0 GC. Even Facebook Market place usually has a pile of Jeeps getting wrecked.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Most broken WG’s I have seen being wrecked are 4.7 V8’s

Default Jeep 4.0L Tupy Head

After overheating my 2000 XJ, I picked up my TUPY (avoid the 0331 crack) from a wrecked TJ 2004. $200 then took it to machine shop (valve guides) and another $700 later it was done. Runs like a champ now. These 4.0 can take a lot of shit. Even after overheating it, everything was tight bearings etc!! If in QLD check out jeep recycling or like the others said keep an eye out for a wrecked WJ or TJ

2003+ TJ is the way to go. Should be plenty at wreckers. Note that 0331 is still cast in head, look for word TUPY. But anything after 2003 is the go. Regularly service the coolant system and oil changes, and I can’t see you ever having any problems.
