I advise you to soak the threads of the fuel tank retaining strips very well with penetrant, as the thread is very long and exposed to dirt and rust.

I keep a mix of used ATF and mineral turps, which is very cheap and effective, can be sprayed, from a small bottle, and have a gal bucket to soak things in

Recipe given to me be by an auto engineer

Sounds like a good Brew Tony ... But Lucky for Me the tank has been in and out a few times in the last few years...
But it wasn't what I expected after watching some youtube videos the tank removal is the same but on the 99 the tank is plastic (good no rust) and there is a bash plate tank protector thingie hose cover and of course you have to remove the tow bar and rear exhaust hanger and of course before I could do anything the caked on mud What Fun ...
Took me about 3 hours Blood was Drawn Choice Words were Spoken But it is all OFF!
I was going to drain it But Beer O Clock was looming and the tank was filthy and the only way was out the top So I cleaned it and hosed it and will leave for tomorrow
drain and Clean then leave it upside down on the table to air dry for a few days .... while I wait for the fuel pump
"I liked rego stickers! you knew what was coming"
my 6 week calculations have just gone out the window.....
the 96 rego is due soon
not to mention my budget with the $extra$ that have come up its going to take a bit longer !!
Oh Well! ....
Diff Seal and Brake Bleed this week easy access no fuel tank

Any wonder this run at ALL!........
Fuel Tank was full of Dirt Broken Plastic Bits and a Large Spring?
The filter bag was filthy and the fuel line is held on with tie wire to the pressure regulator and was covered in caked on MUD!
The broken plastic bits once removed and dried out a bit .. crumbled into Powder .... and there was little white plastic dots in the fuel................
You don't need a crystal ball to see this was a side of the road tragedy waiting to happen !
Any wonder it has been eating fuel pumps for the last few years? ....... and of course I decided to remove the battery today for charging and remove the battery tray for cleaning and the ground wire from the negative battery to the body was just hanging by one strand of wire and a dab of solder Broke! another disaster averted Now that I am not rushing to get it on the road I am going to go over everything and check it ....
The light under the bonnet which we unplugged years ago takes a 44 mm looped festoon led bulb COOL!
Guess what is getting plugged back in "LOL"
Oh when I was informed the Nudge Bar was $220 to my door O'l mate forgot to add the $50 for the bar so it's $270 to my door So its all Cool I will get in the post this week and that's it for the spending spree not ready for engine/gearbox mounts for a while
So now when the pump module arrives it's slowly start putting it all back together

Alex there was gravel in the tank I'd say the few times the mechanics have had it out they didn't clean the top too well before opening it
And No he is using pack n send Oh Well .. Still Cheap at $270..
"Fuel Line Retaining Clips" I rang around a few places in Australia and No Way Jeep told me they could get them in from the USA for $50 something each!
WTF! ... Do You think I am Stupid!
I got a pack of 3 off Amazon USA for $10 aud and $7 postage
so I am going to wait for them rather than use the tie wire solution that is on there ..
Alex you and Tony might be wise to grab a packet of the clips to put away "Just In Case"
Doorman Brand 800-016
I rang the Liquid Intelligence mob and told them what had happened It's fine to leave part A sitting in the engine for a few weeks So I am going to wait for the clips and do the job properly.........
There are plenty of other things to keep me amused
Fuel Pump Module arrived today
Fix the Leaky Diff Tomorrow
