Do It! You'll be glad you did. Just wait for the job you want. Don't let them squeeze you into something that you won't enjoy.
I'm doing it as soon as helicopter pilot openings come back.
Not to fussed about branch of service either.

i have been in for 4 years and a bit scince then i have really grown as a person become more focused and 'switched on' to little things happening around me. learnt more discipline and got more drive then the 21 year old kids i joined as. i get paid better then ok $125 per day tax free plus travel plus incidentals plus a $10,000 bonus every two years plus $2500 for taking out private health insurance plus . all of that is tax free. And if im away for more then two weeks my boss gets $1100 per week im away. (he gives it me what a champ). the money is not bad at all. but in infantry it is the hardest job in world.
I have been to canberra, sydney, melbourne, townsville, atherton and even the solomon islands all paid for by the government. and have got trained up in infantry and also rover qualified and signals trained, but the best times is out on the range firing rocket launchers and grenade launchers. i have met some of the best blokes i could hope to meet.
the bad side is its a rock show with orders that can change at any time. holding you back on weekends(last week end we where told we would be out at 4 pm but it progressively made got through out the day ended up leaving at 7.30pm) also working a weekend you might 8 eight sleep for the whole weekend crash out on sunday at home and have to get up for work on monday so you work 12 days straight. (fifo guys do that all the time so no biggie i suppose).
im so happy im in though next big thing im looking forward to is the defence force home loan... 3% homeloan. and getting Mog trained. and maybe just maybe going overseas again.or doing border 'protection'.

was in for 4 years whilst at uni. Similar story to above^ Was great fun.
If your motivated, keen and fit you'll love it.
If your sloppy, lazy etc you'll have a hard time.
