Brakes
I've been a fan of my KK since new. Now with 68000k on the clock it's starting to cost me money. 1000k ago I had to replace the water pump. Now my front brakes are shot. My mech tells me not to keep driving it as they are down to the metal. A/C rattles bad when turned on.
Question for those smarter than me. Water pump at 66000k? Brakes at 68000k. 95% of my k's are hot highway miles on long distance trips.
Am I just unlucky or is this the start of terrorizing my credit card?

My fronts lasted till nearly 100k and rears are still original. I machined the front discs and fitted new pads myself. The water pump is still original at over 130k but could go at any moment.
With less than 70k and not many cost effective alternate vehicle options I would just put it down to cost of ownership. At some point the bills will get bigger but I wouldn’t expect too soon.

Brakes are easy to do. Pads are quite cheap and so are the rotors really. Get upgraded pads or 4x4 pads. Last longer... just a little harder pedal.
All water pumps go at some stage. KK seem to go anywhere between 75-130000k's.
Just do your normal servicing on scedule and you should be right for quite a long time.

Thanks. Does $280.00 for new front brakes installed sound reasonable?
I have 3 thumbs and no tools to do it my self.

extremely overpriced. a high end brake pad like Hawks are around $120 a set. 1 hour labor. you are looking at 200ish for a workshop to do...
They will most likely offer some shitty bendix pads which retail for $40 bucks..
Honestly if you feel that bad about changing pads, even after watching youtube. Ask a member on here or facebook to come and help you.
If you are in Vic, I would be happy to come and show yo how to do it for yourself

Brake pad and rotor wear comes down to the quality of the products installed initially, how your drive, and if you are picky then how you like your brakes to feel (i.e. touchy/sensitive/sportier pedal feel will usually come from softer compound pads that will need replacing more frequently).
Waterpump on the 3.7 v6's is a 'serviceable item'. This means it was designed to be changed as part of regular vehicle servicing. This is very common on various vehicles for varying parts and engine accessories. Typically means that it will be a fairly straight forward job, the part will be readily available, and the part itself won't cost too much (famous last words). All of what I just mentioned is certainly true for the 3.7's waterpump if you buy it from the right place (i.e. not from Jeep, get it from Rockauto instead).
Other engines might have a water pump that is 'non-serviceable' item which means the manufacturer intends for the part to last as long as the engine itself, or at least a significant amount of time, such as 200,000km. The 2.8 CRD is like this. These waterpumps are usually designed to be long lasting and high quality, integrated into the engine in such a way that they cannot be removed without pretty much pulling a lot of the engine apart (i.e. timing belt and front end of motor etc), these items are usually quite expensive to buy and fit, and not readily available. These items do fail sometimes and for those that have them its a terrible thing cos its never a quick and cheap fix.
Me personally I'd be happy with the cheap easy to replace serviceable item that is the water pump on the 3.7s.

To be fair the water pump was doubtful. I hit a kangaroo and much of the poor roo found its way into the suspension and up behind the radiator. More than likely the roo or parts of the roo upset the water pump causing it to fail earlier than would be expected. (I pulled a leg bone out from behind the lower grill area).
We drive very short distances a week around the Gold Coast with long runs down to Vic and SA once or twice a year. 5-6 months of the year the KK is parked while we are overseas.
I just though 68000k wasn't long for front break to last.
