As another AUST owner who had the same problem where all his rivit nut sunken in, he bored a new rivit nut about an inch to the side, where you can see it doubles the strength.

You can still use the Front Runners as you have room to play, though the rack will sit lower overall as you widen the bracket by an inch each side.

Taking the car into a panel beater to see what its worth, and see if they are willing to reinforce or bore a new hole for each rivit nut.

Have a mate who cracked his roof on our last Cape York trip and I think the repair quote was about $3,000...68kg roof load max not forgetting subtract roof rack weight doesn't leave that much for gear especially if you intend to put a second spare up top as well .. Pretty crappy..The rack may be able to carry much more but the limit is the vehicle specs regardless..I did a GoPro video of roof flex when I had my previous Laredo...Pretty scary stuff so much wiser now with my Trailhawk..

Mine has cracked every rivet except the end ones at the end of each rail which don't hold any weight. I took the rail mountings off and removed them all by hand (which did not take any effort) and tapped them up with Gorilla tape. I will have it reinforced and repaired by my local panel beater. F'ing sh!t house design, especially since I have never really over loaded it that much, its just that the weight that is on the roof, cops it hard when off roading - which I do a lot.

I hear ya.

Are you working on a solution in future for your setup or will reuse the shit design?

I contacted Bill and the eaglenest is not ready yet as he is also waiting for his prototype.

Im going to go with a local fabricator to make up some Uneek like bracket once I get my roof sorted out. Unless Eaglenest becomes available before then.

I will reinforce the shit design and choose a bit more wisely in regard to the roof rack type. I have a big Darche awning mounted to a large mesh type rack and I plan on buying a new roof rack, preferably aluminium. I am in talks with a couple of suppliers of roof racks to make sure I minimise the chance of this happening again.

Let us know what you decide.

Uneek have a shit roof tray design but good bracket.

Gobi have a better bracket and ugly impracticle tray.

Cant think or anything else.

I had wished rhino rack has a backbone for wk2.
