Default Diff Dust Deflector/Yoke weird part search

Hi guys,
I'm searching for a weird part for my WG 2003 CRD Grand Cherokee. I had some oil leaking from the front diff and the guys at Newcastle Diffs and Gearboxes have pulled it apart and said that the Dust Deflector/Yoke that fits on to the front flange of the diff around the outside of the oil seal is damaged. He said its an extremely important but somewhat unheard of part that protects the diff seal from dust, sand, rocks and general stuff that jeeps normally go through. He's tried all over OZ to get a spare one but can't find one anywhere. His only option for a new one would be Singapore and that would be a 2 week wait. He's glued the old one back together and is confident it will hold, but I just wondered if anyone has ever heard of this part or knows where one might be available. Genuine part number is K05012444aa.

Cheers,

If you're talking about what I think your talking about, then the only oil seals in your diff/axle housing are the ones that go inside the axle tubes just either side of the carrier (ie just either side of the diff pumpkin). Apparently they are a pain to change. The dust 'cover' (a rubber ring type thing) and seal should be changed at the same time and might also be one single part from my understanding. The brand 'Timken' make seals for the D30 front axle in your WG and are readily available.

The seals will only wear prematurely if dirt (sand, mud, contaminated water) gets into the axle tubes from the wheel end, or if you've bent your axle housing (even 2mm) as this will cause the driveshaft to not completely seal against the oil seal...

I've been doing a bit more research and I think the guy might be talking about a yoke. I found the part number he gave me online in US. http://www.jeep4x4center.com/product...mber=5012444AA

Try calling jeep for an exact discription of the part.

Any photos would help, cant quite work out if your talking about a seal or the yoke itself, either way jeep could get it for you or at least tell you exactly what it is so you can raid it from the wreckers possiably.

If it is a seal it wouldnt be to expensive to get from jeep or the above mentioned part supplier.

i know wot ur talkin about had the same problem a month ago... pinion seal was leaking so decided to change it..... and at the front of the pinion seal there is a pissy lil rubber seal that keeps dust out. but i just greased up my crappy old one and stuck it back in cos i couldn't find the part either. now the dust should hopefully get stuck in the grease and not go in to the seal

Yep seen same thing when replacing my rear pinion seal, it had a part no. on it but I didnt write it down cause I re-used it.
Its just a dust seal & isnt critical, but would help keep mud out. Most vehicles dont have anything or occasionally have a felt dust seal.
