There is some really interesting info in these new standards regarding Class MC vehicles (4WD off road passenger vehicles up to 9 seats) ......
increase of tyre width up to 50% of widest factory tyre and up to 50mm taller that the tallest factory tyre - track increase up to 50mm.
Makes 33" on a lot of aftermarket rims totally legal.

Thanks for the info, just as a follow up question, I have read that Jeep now has a Jeep 4 inch lift available for the Wrangler. Considering it is engineered for the car by the manufacturer, does it mean you can run the lift legally and without a engineering certificate?

Again, thats something you'd have to talk to Jeep about....they would have to list the lift with the import authorities as a specific model so the height specs were available....if they did that, then yes, it'd be legal....and then THAT would open the doors to other lifts up to that height....or +50mm over it.
Interesting question on whether FCA will feel it worth their while to spec a vehicle like this.....probably not, as it isn't the way they come off the line...ie, Jeep will not build a model on the line with a lift in it.

Does Jeep offer the lift kit in Australia? I am guessing not. It would have to apply to Australian laws. Way too much effort for a tiny little country like ours unfortunately.

No idea, I believe it was only released a month or so back. I might call Jeep tomorrow if I have a spare few minutes at work. Will report back.

Leigh,
The document you are referring to is either for QLD and/or an old document (2011). VSI 6 is the current document for NSW, direct from the RMS NSW government website. This document was revised in 2013 and thus would supersede the document you referred to if it was indeed a NSW document.

Under VSI 6 is the following:
Significant modifications requiring certification:

SUSPENSION - Item 12
Altering vehicle ride height by more than one third of the manufacturer’s suspension travel in the direction of the ride height change.

WHEELS AND TYRES - Item 13
Replacement of tyres that change tyre overall diameter by more than 7% of the overall original diameter*.
* ’overall original diameter’ means the maximum outside diameter of the largest tyre specified by the vehicle’s original manufacturer as an option for the vehicle, as shown on the vehicle’s tyre placard

There is no maximum height specified. The interesting choice of words being the 'suspension travel', not height, are taken into consideration when lifting. I'm not sure what the stock suspension 'travel' is, but a 3" lift is roughly 76mm, times that by 3 is 228mm. IMO I think it would be fairly safe to say the stock suspension 'travel' is at least 228mm. But you should definitely measure this. If your lucky, it might have enough travel to cover the 3.5" lift.

As for tyres, 35" is definitely too large. 33" would be the legal way to go without an engineer. If you owned a Rubi, 35's might be possible if you manage to source a tyre placard with the larger stock wheels on it. (I have only heard about this and haven't seen it or looked into it).

OP, I hope this information clears it up for you.

Strange....then why is this info promulgated on the RTA website.....it seems that they're going out of their way to make things confusing.......
Heck, I'd print a copy of VSB 14 and show it to any officer asking about mods.....lol.

Bastards sure do NOT make it easy for people.
