Default Stereo Changeover

I have a 2009 4dr wrangler JK and want to replace the factory fitted stereo with the Sony XAV AX200 stereo.

Can anyone tell me what harnesses I need to plug and play and swap them out?

Cheers!

I haven't installed a non-OEM head unit in a pre-facelift JK but I am guessing you just need Aerpro APP018 Chrysler to ISO and APP8SP4 Sony AV to ISO cables from your nearest automotive store to make it as plug-and-play as possible.

I don't think it does but I can't remember clearly if the JK uses some proprietary antenna connector.

The Sony mic is pretty good and has a nice mount with a swivel attachment but if you have Uconnect/bluetooth, you can reuse the OEM microphone through a mic adaptor cable, bypassing the Uconnect module.

I am guessing the JK amps and speakers have preset built-in crossovers and high/low pass filters, so I suggest switching off the high pass filter and setting the low pass filter as high as possible (you can't switch it off) but I might be wrong here.

The USB port has more than enough power to fast charge my phone and run two 32gb memory sticks with music that I connected up through a USB hub in the centre console, connected to my AX200 through an extension cable bought from Jaycar.

That reminds me - get a simple toggle switch from Jaycar and connect one end to the handbrake wire on the head unit cabling and the other to a ground point somewhere behind the dashboard. Run the wires for this switch long enough to reach into the glovebox. When it comes time to setup Android Auto or Carplay you need to be stationary and "engage the parking brake", which is where the switch comes in handy.

You need a Pac Audio RP4-CH11 if you want to plug the new stereo directly into the stock system (retain stock amp, steering wheel controls etc.). I did this about 2 months ago. You will also need an adaptor for the antenna and a fascia kit. I will include links to all the stuff i needed below. This route does require you to wire the harness supplied with the XAV to the Pac unit but once thats done its plug and play essentially. I wouldnt bother with putting a switch in the handbrake like the guy said above as i doubt you will ever switch it off, just wire that directly to the ground wire.

Installation is quite easy however you will NOT be able to retain the factory Microphone (not without some more indepth rewiring anyway which isnt really worth it). Feel free to message me for more details. Love my Sony XAV unit though, good choice

You need to ground the handbrake wire on the AV200 to setup Android Auto before first use and it doesn't see the handbrake as engaged if the wire is grounded all the time. The switch makes this process much easier on my car where I disconnect the battery regularly to work on it.

Instead of wiring the Sony harness to the Pac unit, I would suggest replacing the plugs on the Pac unit with ISO plugs. That will make it easier in future when you want to replace the XAV with something else aftermarket.

BTW I am trialling clamp-on steering wheel controls from Ebay and so far, they seem to be working pretty nicely with the AV200.
